Our sea salt is harvested from a pristine, naturally occuring lagoon in the northern region of Mexico. Volcanic rock and sand act as a natural barrier around this body of water, filtering out contaminants and excess sodium chloride. To harvest our artisanal sea salt, we rely on the tried and true methods that have been passed down to each generation of salineros (salt farmers). The thousand year old technique was developed by the Aztecs, and is how our salineros harvest our sea salt today.
Once its been hand-harvested and sun dried, our sea salt undergoes a minor filtering process to remove any remaining rock and sand. It is then sent out to be packaged and shipped to our customers. This process is in stark contrast to traditional salt mining companies that heat, refine, and wash their salt, stripping it of almost all its minerals. The product is a table salt that is almost entirely sodium chloride, which meets industry standards at around 98%. In comparison, Colima Salt Co.
